This was the hardest thing in the world to put together. Instructions are only pictures and no words. It took 3 men just to get the walls to attach to the floor. It just pops in and there is nothing to secure it. I installed L braces for extra support. This took 2 whole days to put together. I will not be buying another one. :(
Over all, my shed (#6418) worked out very well, but I have a few suggestions, to make your construction easier.
I was able to click in the first two wall pieces, but could not budge the next one. Fortunately, a friend arrived and helped. Even with his help it took both of us and a lot of muscle to bare down enough to get the rest in. Just keep that in mind.
The rest of it I managed by myself. I'm a 68 year old female, but nonetheless, I was able to manage it. However, for most females my age, I would suggest getting a helper, it just makes everything so much easier, especially when putting on the roof.
It took a lot of effort, but I finally got it together. If you opt to do it by yourself, you can get all those screws in the roof by selecting the ones easier to get at, and then go on to the others. Just go back and forth, easing the roof into the correct position, and eventually it will all come together. (Remember, this thing is made of plastic, not wood, and therefore has more malleability.) You'll have to juggle one hand holding the roof, at the same time putting the screw onto the bit. It CAN BE DONE! I did not use my electric drill, too heavy to deal with, having only one hand available. It helps to wear an apron with pockets to get at your screw driver and screws easily.
There were only two other problems (see page 35 of instructions.) When inserting screw (ABU) into AIB, I discovered that the bottom square hole did not have the plastic cut out thoroughly in the manufacturing process (ditto with both doors.) I had to spend an hour cleaning out the plastic, using various sized bits with my electric drill and a snub nosed pliers. I would suggest to check that spot before inserting the rod (AFC, page 34), which would make getting that plastic out more easy. The service people took note of this.
I would also recommend sliding the dead bolt latches (AHM) up and down many times, with the help of a hammer, and add a small amount of oil to get them going smoothly.
Good luck ladies!
I love this shed. It is sturdy and it looks great. It took my landlord and his friend 2 evenings to put it together. Its
great value at $699 with free shipping. The customer service
representative I spoke with was very helpful and the shed
arrived very quickly. I will highly recommend both the
product and the company.
Lifetime items:Outstanding instruction manual with useful and accurate illustrations. The build quality is also top notch. Had ZERO problems installing two of these bad boys in about six hours for BOTH, with two people. I WILL be buying more Lifetime items, in the future. Competitive Edge:Excellent web site, great prices, and terrific follow-up on the order, shipment, and customer satisfaction. Will buy my Lifetime products from them again too.
This is the second shed of this type that we have purchased. Some minor assembly glitches but none worth fussing about. We have had the first shed about 5 years and have no complaints. I expect this new shed to serve us just as well.
I love this product. It took longer to put together than I thought and the instructions could have been better written with better illustrations and examples. Still, I was able to put it together in less than a day myself, with a little bit of help up top from wife toward the end. One thing, very important to be level or the doors will not line up. Even though on a concrete slab, the slab I used had fall for water runoff and I have to construct a shim apparatus to get the whole thing flush. Great product though and I would buy it again. Also, I saw it at Sears for around $1,100.00 so I saved several hundred dollars.
Well packaged, clear instructions, and easy construction. A quality product. Fast shipping, great communication, service and support from Competitive Edge.
